TheCrossword.org was built by crossword lovers, for crossword lovers. No paywalls. No subscriptions. No sign-ups. Just original puzzles, clue answers and word tools, free to use.
Our Story
TheCrossword.org started with a simple frustration: why do so many good crossword resources sit behind paywalls or sign-up walls? Most solvers know the feeling of reaching for a puzzle or a word tool and being asked for a subscription first.
So we built the site we wanted to use ourselves: a free, fast, no-fuss place to solve a daily crossword, look up a stubborn clue, or untangle an anagram, with no account and no paywall.
We're independent. There are no investors and no premium tier. We cover hosting and running costs with advertising (Google AdSense), and we try to keep ads out of the way of the puzzles.

Our puzzles are original. We don't republish puzzles from newspapers or other publishers.

We think puzzles should be for everyone. That means:

- No accounts. You never need to sign up or log in.
- Your progress stays with you. Puzzle progress and stats are saved in your own browser, not on our servers.
- Fast and light. Plain pages with no heavy frameworks.
- Honest about data. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what analytics and advertising cookies are used.
Who We Are
We're a small, independent team of puzzle enthusiasts: people who solve crosswords every day, argue about clue fairness, and enjoy building useful tools for fellow solvers. We write the puzzles, maintain the word lists and tools, and write the guides on the blog.

Puzzle pages should load quickly and work on any device. Slow pages kill the joy of solving, so we keep things simple: plain HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript.
Quality over quantity
One good puzzle beats ten mediocre ones. We check our clues for fairness and accuracy, and when a solver reports a mistake, we fix it.
