Anagram solver FAQ

What is an anagram?

An anagram rearranges all the letters of a word or phrase into a new one — LISTEN becomes SILENT, and ASTRONOMER becomes MOON STARER.

How do I use anagrams in cryptic crosswords?

Cryptic clues often signal an anagram with words like “broken”, “mixed”, “wild” or “arranged”. The letters to rearrange (the fodder) sit next to the indicator — enter them here to see which words they make. Read our guide to cryptic clue types for more.

Can I include blank tiles?

Yes. Add a ? for each blank and the solver will use it as any letter — handy for word games like Scrabble and Words with Friends.

Does it find phrases?

The solver finds single words. For two-word anagrams, look for a long word first and check whether the leftover letters make another word.
